Brush off dry dirt after every event
A soft brush removes dust and soil before it builds into seams and flex points. Heavy dried mud is usually easier to brush away before using a damp cloth.
Use minimal water for cleaning
Wipe remaining dirt with a slightly damp cloth rather than soaking the boot. Remove cleaning residue and let the leather dry naturally.
Dry slowly
Keep wet leather away from radiators, hair dryers, campfires, and other intense heat. Open the boot and allow air circulation in a ventilated room.
Condition when the leather feels dry
Use a conditioner compatible with the leather, applying a small amount evenly. Test first because conditioners can deepen color.
Prepare for wet events in advance
A suitable wax or leather protector can improve water resistance. Apply it before the event, not after the boots are already soaked.

Inspect closures
Check laces, straps, toggles, and stitching when cleaning. Replace worn laces before they fail during an event.
Check the sole edge
